Experiment Background | Rice is major staple food crop grown in 112 countries of the world. The total area of the world under rice cultivation is 148.36 million hectare producing 519.86 million tons of grains. India has the largest rice growing area of 43.6 million hectares which produces 82.1 million tons (Siddiq.2002) but average productivity is quite low 1.9 tons per hectares (Raju, 2000) as compared to temperate countries like Japan, Italy, Spain, China, etc. Recently, minor disease sheath blight which was less significance earlier is now emerging as serious threats to rice production. Sheath blight is the most important disease of rice incited by Rhizoctonia solani (Kuhn), first reported by Paracer and Chahal (1963) from Gurdaspur in Punjab state. A yield loss of 25 per cent reported if the flag leaves infected and also increase up to 50 per cent. | ||
