Experiment Title Effect of land configuration and drought mitigating strategies in pigeonpea under rainfed condition
Research Type Departmental Research
Experiment Background Pigeon pea is a versatile deep rooted legume crop, well known for its drought tolerance under kharifrainfed upland ecosystem and very often affected with vagaries of monsoon. At the same time it is also true that it is very much susceptible for heavy rains and water logging conditions. In the changing climate scenario, we often are witnessing the uneven distribution of rainfalls. This is the main reason that our national productivity (approx. 800 kg/ha) lag far behind to its potential yield of 1500-3000 kg/ha. To overcome this gap there must be mitigating strategies that will save our pigeonpea crop in both drought (dry spells) and heavy precipitation especially under rainfed condition. Hence for, this research is proposed.
