Experiment Title Intercropping of cole crops in banana cv .Grand Naine
Research Type Departmental Research
Experiment Background Banana (Musa paradisica L.) is a large herbaceous perennial monocotyledonous & monocarpic crop. Banana belongs to the family Musaceae. Banana is known as “Apple of Paradise”. Its origin is the tropical region of South-East Asia. Banana crop has nutritional, meditational and industrial value. Banana has been associated with man as food and is used for religious work. In addition, banana is one of the most important fruit crops of the world. The distance between two rows in banana is wider and we can take intercrops during initial stage without disturbing main crop and get extra income. Initial growth of banana is slow which offers an opportunity to take short duration intercrop like onion, garlic, cabbage, cauliflower, red cabbage and broccoli (Sonavane et al., 2014 and Mahant, et al., 2012.)
