Response of planting densities on growth, yield and quality of banana cv. Grand Naine
Research Type
Departmental Research
Experiment Background
Banana (Musa paradisica L.) is a large herbaceous perennial monocotyledonous & monocarpic crop. Banana belongs to the family Musaceae. Banana is known as “Apple of Paradise”. Its origin is the tropical region of South-East Asia. Banana crop has nutritional, meditational and industrial value. Banana has been associated with man as food and is used for religious work. In addition banana is one of the most important fruit crops of the world.
High density planting is an intensive system of cultivation in banana not only provides high production and net returns but also facilitates efficient utilization of solar energy, nutrients and water (Apshara and Sathiyamoorthy, 2003).
Now-a-days, farmers are practicing different row to row and plant to plant distances in banana to plant maximum number of plants per unit area to achieve higher yield without decreasing the quality.
