Experiment Title Study on pesticide residues in fruits collected from different districts of South Gujarat
Research Type Departmental Research
Experiment Background Fruits have a pivotal role in the diet for maintenance of health and prevention of several human diseases. A wide range of pesticides are used for the production of fruits in India due to heavy infestation throughout the cropping season of horticultural crops. Pesticides have potentially adverse effect on human health. Fruits are generally consumed as raw which facilitates easy entry into human body. South Gujarat is major producer of many fruit crops viz., mango, banana, sapota etc. Further, several exotic origin/imported fruits are also available to consumers due to globalization. Fruits are generally consumed without any processing. Therefore, it becomes essential to study the probable presence of pesticides in indigenous along with exotic fruits are available to consumers of South Gujarat.
