Evaluation of biopesticides against pod borers infesting blackgram
Research Type
Departmental Research
Experiment Background
The low productivity in blackgram may be attributed to factors like limited varietal improvement, soil moisture stress, pest infestation etc., among them; ravage of insect pests is the most important. Legume pod borer, Maruca vitrata and Helicoverpa armigera contributes to a major yield loss. Though the synthetic pesticides are used to combat pod borers, but their widespread use has created a variety of problems and has become a threat to human health. Further, the application of synthetic pesticides has contributed to the environmental pollution through air or as residues in food. Considering the importance of biopesticides, the experiment was proposed for the same.
