Experiment Title Factors influencing farmers' decision to select a bank for availing an agricultural loan in Navsari District
Research Type Survey Work
Experiment Background Agricultural credit is critical to the development of the farm sector. Lending to agriculture is an important function of any Indian bank. Farmers engaged in agricultural activities require financial assistance to grow crops during cropping seasons as well as for other related purposes such as setting up irrigation facilities, land development activities, and purchasing agricultural implements, among others. (K. Govardhan, 2022) Farmers can obtain financial assistance from a variety of sources, including local money lenders, cooperative societies, micro finance institutions, co-operative banks, and scheduled commercial banks. Banks are governed by the RBI and NABARD's rules, guidelines, and policies, and thus they are the most trusted source of finance to farmers in terms of charging interest on loans and repayment terms and providing timely banking services. Given the importance of providing credit to the agriculture sector, the Reserve Bank of India has mandated that 40% of a bank's total loans outstanding be allocated to the priority sector, with 18% allocated to agricultural activities. Thus, it becomes very important to know for banks that what factors influence the farmers decisions to choose a bank for an agricultural loan. Further it may help the banks to serve better offerings to the farmers.
