Experiment Background | Turmeric is one of the key ingredients in many Asian dishes, imparting a mustard-like, earthy aroma and pungent, slightly bitter flavor to foods. Most turmeric is used in the form of rhizome powder to impart a golden yellow color. The golden yellow color of turmeric is due to curcumin. Phytochemical components of turmeric include diarylheptanoids, a class including numerous curcuminoids, such as curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin. Presently thr turmeric cultivated in Navsari condition is having maximum curcumin content upto 4% while there is a record for production of curcumin content about 7 to 8% in turmeric which is also dependent on favorable environmental conditions. Reports had been found to stimulate the plant’s internal phenolics synthesis by using limonine or salisylic acid. Hence in this study an effort will be taken to increase the curcumin content by the application of limonin. | ||
