Experiment code 20.5.3.4
Experiment Title Effect of saline water irrigation and biochar application on growth and yield of dragon fruit
Research Type Departmental Research
Experiment Background Dragon fruit (Hylocereus spp.) is a fruit-bearing climbing cactus, originally from the Americas, and is considered promising for cultivation due to the fruit having an exotic appearance, sweet, and smooth flavor and it has presented an increasing acceptance in consumer markets. As increasing demand leads to cultivation on large scale in different climatic zones, it requires adequate supply of water for the growth potential. However, soil salinity and high EC of irrigation water is an intrusive factor for the crop productivity. Biochar amendment has been found to effectively reduce salinity stress on plants by increasing the soil cation exchange capacity (CEC), total porosity, soluble and exchangeable K+, and fertilities. So the current study is proposed to evaluate the efficacy of biochar on salinity and crop production of dragon fruit.
