Experiment Title | Response of Tomato (GT-7) to foliar application of Novel Organic Liquid Nutrient and Micronutirents.
Research Type | Departmental Research
Experiment Background | Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is one of the most important Solanaceous vegetable crop grown throughout the world because of its wider adaptability, high yielding potential and suitability for variety of uses in fresh as well as processed food industries. It is a tropical day neutral plant and it is mainly self-pollinated crop. In world, It is also a very good source of income for small and marginal farmers and also contributes to the nutrition of the consumer. Tomato is an important protective food. In terms of human diet, it is a major component of daily meals in many countries and constitutes an excellent source of health providing compounds. Foliar fertilization has several advantages, can be applied throughout the growing season, which enables to spray with small quantity and composition of the nutrient solution, appropriate to the specific requirements in different phases of the crop development. Foliar applications may sometimes facilitate to the rapid absorption of mineral elements, avoiding the occurrence of soil interactions that may limit root uptake due to e.g., nutrient immobilization in the soil. Additionally, foliar fertilization may stimulate the capability of the root system to absorb nutrients from the soil solution. Nutrient uptake via foliage may be much faster as compared to soil nutrition. Foliar nutrient applications can very quickly correct physiological disorders caused by nutrient deficiencies, as well as help to overcome various stress conditions.
