Experiment Title Attitude of farm women towards kitchen gardening in Bharuch district

Experiment Background Gardening is an important component for household food security contributes to household income and saving and improves the health and nutritional well-being of the family. Gardening is commonly a family activity including women, men, children and elderly persons. Kitchen Garden is one the world’s most ancient agricultural practices. Planting and maintaining a Kitchen Garden brings families together and kids naturally gravitate to gardening. A Kitchen Garden is cost saving activity that can be enjoyed as a hobby. It acts as a source of relaxation during high stress period and reduction in illness and stress. Further, it is important to stay healthy to minimize healthcare expenses. Eating vegetables and fruits in sufficient quantity will boost one’s immune system which helps to stay healthy. Kitchen garden gives dual benefits of providing food and healthy life. Kitchen Gardening provides fresh and organic vegetables and fruits which are more nutritious and have presence of higher amounts of antioxidants. These antioxidants neutralize free radicals present in the body system and minimize the chances of occurrence of degenerative diseases like cancer, arthritis, memory loss, paralysis. Kitchen gardens also provide a number of ecosystem services such as habitats for animals and other beneficial organisms, nutrient recycling, reduced soil erosion, and enhanced pollination. Bharuch district is surrounded with industrial area and the industrial waste is polluting adjacent areas drastically. All the natural resources like soil, water and air were polluting radically. So this situation blocks the availability of fresh, healthy and nutrient rich fruits and vegetables. To overcome this situation promotion of kitchen gardening is the one of the best option to avail fresh and chemical free fruits and vegetables. Based on this background this study is designed with the following objectives

Objective
  1. To know the profile of respondents.
  2. To study the attitude of respondents about kitchen gardening
  3. To delineate the relationship between personal profile and their attitude towards kitchen gardening.
  4. To identify the constraints and to seek the suggestions to develop suitable extension strategies for farm women in kitchen gardening

Research Methodology

For the present investigation, six talukas i.e Bharuch, Amod, Hansot, Vagra Jhagadia and Ankleshwar taluka of Bharuch district will be selected purposively as in these areas industrial activities are concentrated. From each taluka, 3 villages will be selected and from each village 20 respondents will be going to selected thus, total sample size 120 per year and for the 3 years the total sample size is 360. Pre-tested version Gujarati interview schedule will be prepared, and the data will be compiled, tabulated and analysed to draw valid conclusions. In the 2023-24 academic year Bharuch, Amod talukas were selected with the sample size of 120.
