| Experiment Title | Effect of pollen suspension on fruit set and quality of dragon fruit | ||
| Research Type | Departmental Research | ||
| Experiment Background | Dragon fruit (Hylocereus spp.) is trending among farmers in tropical and subtropical regions. Being a highly remunerative crop the adaptation has become exponential in the last decade. As the main flowering season coincides with the rainfall, the higher pollination and fertilization seems to be low due to washout of pollen grains, which ultimately effect on the size of the fruit. However, being a self- incompatible nature, the assisted pollination may increase the size and quality of the fruit. Efforts to get a hybrid clone that are self-compatible will be very beneficial to the farmers, but the gestation period is very high for the future new varieties. As another measure, application of enriched pollen suspension may tackle the given problem of fruit size and quality. | ||
