Experiment code 21.5.3.6
Experiment Title Study on effect of diurnal temperature on mango production using RS and GIS
Research Type Departmental Research
Experiment Background Climate change will be a tremendous threat not only for mango production but also for the whole agriculture in the upcoming century. The increasing concentration level of atmospheric CO2, which is a major factor of climate change, has to be considered for the consequences of climate change on agriculture because CO2 is involved in the key processes for plants, such as photosynthesis. Mango, a seasonal fruit, is one of the most widely cultivated and popular fruits in the tropical and the subtropical climate for its economic and nutritional values. Temperature has a dominant influence on the growth cycle, time and frequency of flowering, fruit growth, taste and appearance of the mango in almost all production areas. Now a day spatial and temporal variation of temperature can be assess using Remote sensing. In present study, the relation between mango productivity and day/night temperature derived from the remote sensing data will be studied.

  • The Ground truth samples of Mango plantation will be collected from Navsari district.
  • Mango productivity data will be collected from the Director of Horticulture, Agriculture, Farmers welfare and Co-operation department, GOG (www.doh.gujarat.gov.in).
  • Satellite imageries of the Navsari district (Sentinel/Landsat/MODIS) will be acquired.
  • Thematic maps of the study region for LST will be generated.

The relationship between temperature and mango productivity will be determined.
