Experiment Background
|
Wilt fungus is one of the major biological constraints in the production of pigeonpea. Organic farming has strongly attracted the growers, being an important priority area in view of the growing demand for safe and healthy food and long term sustainability that concern on environmental pollution associated with indiscriminate use of pesticides. Amongst various organic amendments, the oil-cakes of several plants have been found to be effective against soil borne pathogens. Organic soil amendment is another important option and eco friendly approach for controlling soil borne pathogen by developing suppressive soil. This trend is recently receiving greater interest among scientist, providing effective control against the target pathogens and avoiding environmental pollution. A number of reports on using oil-cakes, to control soil borne pathogen infesting pulse crops are available. Fusarium wilt is the most important disease of pigeonpea in India resulting in yield losses up to 67 per cent at maturity and 100 per cent in case of infection at pre-pod stage. Considering economic importance of diseases present investigation was carried out to eco-friendly management in field condition of wilt diseases of Pigeonpea by applying different oil cakes in the soil which increases antagonistic microflora are being extensively employed against soil borne F. udum causing pigeonpea wilt disease. |
