Experiment Title Evaluation of biostimulatory activity of Trichoderma
Research Type Departmental Research
Experiment Background Trichoderma is a well-known beneficial fungus with worldwide importance. It is often considered a gift from God due to its numerous benefits. One of the key advantages of Trichoderma is its antagonistic activity, which is highly effective in suppressing phytopathogens. This has led to its categorization as a biopesticide for many years. However, researchers have also discovered another hidden talent of Trichoderma – its biostimulatory activity. This means that it can promote plant growth and enhance various growth parameters. Given the tedious and lengthy process of obtaining a license for biopesticides, this research aims to explore an alternative route for exemption as per the FCO (Fertilizer Control Order) act. The research will focus on identifying the most effective Trichoderma isolate and evaluating its impact on plant growth parameters. If significant positive effects are observed, this could potentially lead to the promotion of Trichoderma as a biostimulant, thus providing an alternative pathway to market for this beneficial fungus.

Methodology

:

For the isolation of Trichoderma soil samples will be collected from the pigeonpea wilt infected fields and brought to the laboratory with subject to serial dilution plate technic. Test pathogen F. udum will also be maintained on PDA by subculturing technic. Characterization of Trichoderma will be done by checking antifungal efficacy through employing dual culture technic. Blotter paper test will be employed to get effect on pigeon pea seed germinating characters and other observations like mortality per cent etc. For the pot experient, the pigeon wilt infected soils will be filled in pot from authentic wilt sick plot of NARP farm and ten seeds per pot will be sown in each treatments and repetitions. Formulation will be developed and shelf life will be checked and subjected cfu count. A field experiment will be conducted in natural field condition at National Agriculture Research Project, College of Agriculture, Navsari Agricultural University, Campus Bharuch during Kharif 2025. Treatments along with control will be evaluated in pigeon pea. Plot without any treatment will be served as control. All standard agronomical practices will be followed and observations will be recorded and subjected for statistical analysis.
