Experiment Title Effect of land configuration and irrigation level on beetroot grown after kharif rice
Research Type Departmental Research
Experiment Background In rice, kharif season requires puddling operation which deteriorate physical condition of clay soils. Suitable land configuration provides better soil physical condition for rabi root crops development which ensures better crop establishment with efficient irrigation water utilization, especially when the crop is sown on ridges or beds. Higher water use efficiency in bed planting as compared to the flat planting technique. Sugar beet is sensitive to water deficits, particularly in the early growing stages and there is a positive linear relationship between water use and root production. Water stress and excess water is the major cause of sugar beet yield loss in many regions, even in areas where the crop is not normally irrigated or is supplementary irrigated. Under this scenario for optimum water usage becomes a key target for sugar beet producers. In order to generate information about land configuration and irrigation schedule for beetroot present study is planned.
