Experiment Title Response of sugarcane to different row spacing and drip irrigation levels with soil moisture sensor under South Gujarat condition
Research Type Departmental Research
Experiment Background Sugarcane is a predominate crop grown on clay soils of South Gujarat. Average productivity is around 72 t/ha in South Gujarat which is higher than major sugarcane processing states of India. But, there is still a very good scope to increase the productivity by adoption of proper management of drip irrigation method. As per our past experiments, it has been proved that yield and quality of sugarcane can be improved significantly, if crop is planting in paired and irrigated through drip irrigation with fertigation. However, adoption of drip irrigation method in sugarcane is not sufficient as per our expectation due to high initial investment and interculturing problem. Due to prime need to farm mechanization for easy interculturing particular with drip irrigation, research on different spacing of sugarcane is required. Generating information regarding proper irrigation schedule in different sugarcane spacing, present study is proposed

Objective

1. To evaluate suitable drip irrigation level with row spacing of sugarcane 2. To assess the interaction effect of different row spacing and levels of drip irrigation on the growth and yield of sugarcane. 3. To standardize soil moisture sensors with different irrigation levels
