Experiment Title PERSISTENCE AND DISSIPATION BEHAVIOUR OF PYROXASULFONE IN MAIZE

Experiment Background Pyroxasulfone, a pre-emergence herbicide belonging to Isoxazoline chemical family. Pyroxasulfone inhibits very-long-chain fatty acid elongase in susceptible weeds and facilitates pre-emergence weed control. This herbicide provides good control of grass and broadleaf weed species with excellent selectivity. The duration and efficacy of pre-emergence herbicides for weed control are governed by various factors such as soil properties, rainfall, and field preparation as well as the physicochemical properties of the herbicide itself. Knowledge of the factors influencing weed control will facilitate the effective use of herbicides and decision making for weed management programs. . According to guideline of CIBRC, this herbicide is registered for weed control in maize, wheat and soyabean in India. The information regarding dissipation behavior of this herbicide in maize under South Gujarat condition is still not available. Considering all these fact this experiment is planned and purposed to determine the dissipation and persistence behavior of pyroxasulfone in soil and its residues in maize .
