Experiment Title | Influence of pre-sowing treatments on seed germination and seedling vigour in Semecarpus anacardium Linn.
Research Type | Departmental Research
Experiment Background | The word ‘Semecarpus’ derived from Simeion in Greek means marking/tracing and ‘carpus’ in Greek means nut where as anacardium means likecardium, i.e. heart shaped marking nut. Marking nut is known to the world since ancient times. Semecarpus anacardium Linn. (Family: Anacardiaceae), popularly known as marking nut, is a moderate to large sized endemic deciduous tree found throughout India except Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh up to elevation of 3500 ft with abundance in Assam, Bihar, West Bengal and Orissa, Chittagong, central India. The tree is well-known for its medicinal value in Ayurvedic and Siddha system of medicine. Chemical and phytochemical analyses of its nut reveal the presence of biflavonoids, phenolic compounds, bhilawanols, minerals, vitamins and amino acids. Varieties of nut extract preparations from this source are effective against many diseases, viz., arthritis, tumors, and infections and so on.

Bhilamo (Semecarpusan ancardium Linn.) Treatment details T1- Control T2- Soaking seeds in normal water for 24 hrs T3- Soaking seeds in luke warm water for 24 hrs T4- Soaking seeds in conc. H2SO4 for 5 min+24 hrs normal water T5- Soaking seeds in conc. H2SO4 for 10 min+24 hrs normal water T6- Soaking seeds in conc. H2SO4 for 15 min+24 hrs normal water T7- Soaking seeds in conc. H2SO4 for 20 min+24 hrs normal water T8- Soaking seeds in GA3 @100 ppm solution for 12 hrs T9- Soaking seeds in GA3 @250 ppm solution for 12 hrs T10- Soaking seeds in GA3 @500 ppm solution for 12 hrs T11- Soaking seeds in GA3 @750 ppm solution for 12 hrs T12- Soaking seeds in GA3 @1000 ppm solution for 12 hrs Three Replications (Repitition) Note: For each repetition, 100 seeds will be used for germination experiment. Total seedlot required is 3600 seeds. After germination experiment, seedlings from 11 treatments will be transplanted into polybags as mentioned above. For each treatment, three repetitions of 20 seedlings each will be maintained for growth observation. Media of soil+sand (1:1) will be commonly used for germination experiment. Seedlings of 2 leaves stage will be transplanted into polybags of 6² x 8² size containing Soil+ Sand + FYM+ (2:1:1) for growth observation. Observation will be recorded upto 6 months. Out of 12 treatments best 10 treatments will be considered for growth study. |
