Experiment code 17.3.3.134
Experiment Title Evaluation of compatibility of NAUROJI Acetobacter (Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus) with different agrochemicals
Research Type Departmental Research
Experiment Background Background information: Biofertilizer NAUROJI Acetobacter (Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus) is being used as biofertilizers for the augmentation of nitrogen in sugarcane crop particularly. Gluconacetobacter sp. associative nitrogen fixing, endophytic nitrogen fixing bacteria belonging to Acetobacter genera. It was first describe in Brazil, associated with sugarcane plant, and first named as Acetobacter diazotrophicus. Then bacteria was renamed as Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus. Gluconacetobacter can reduce the 50 per cent nitrogen requirement in the sugarcane crop. This bacterium has also been found to be associated with non-sugar rich plants also. Application of Acetobacter biofertilizers can reduce the use of 50 per cent chemical fertilizers. This is mainly recommended for the sugarcane crop. There is apprehension among the farmers that if the Biofertilizers being living organisms, will be used with in the field where chemicals are being used frequently will not survive and proved effective results. Therefore, farmers are reluctant to use different Biofertilzers in their field. Theoretically, bacteria are resistant to many chemicals can only be killed by specific chemicals known as antibiotic. Therefore, the present investigation was planned to see the compatibility of different agrochemicals commonly available in the market with the biofertilizers NAUROJI Acetobacter.
