Evaluation of botanicals and biopesticides against thrips complex in banana
Research Type
Departmental Research
Experiment Background
Among various constraints in banana production, particularly red rust thrips (Chaetanaphothrips signipennis Bagnell), flower thrips, Thrips hawaiiensis (Morgan) and leaf thrips (Helianothrips kadaliphilus Ramk. & Marg.) are one of the major problems causing cosmetic losses in banana. Feeding injury to the fruits significantly affects marketability. It affects the cosmetic value of the fruits, which results in low sale price at the wholesale and retail market. Management of thrips by conventional insecticides at fruiting stage is uneconomical and also harmful to natural enemies and the residue may cause detrimental effect. Therefore, present investigation is framed to study bio-efficacy of different botanicals and biopesticides for the management of thrips complex prevailing on banana fruits.
