Identification of cropping systems module for different farming systems
Research Type
AICRP Trials
Experiment Background
The Cropping System Research Sub-Centre Navsari was started during 1982. However, From 27th November, 2014 it was renamed as AICRP on Integrated Farming Systems (Sub Centre) and is located at 20o-57' North latitude and 72o-54' East longitude at an elevation of 10.0 m. (MSL.) in Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari, which is placed under south Gujarat heavy rainfall zone-I. Climate is characterized by fairly hot summer, moderately cold winter, humid and warm monsoon with heavy rain. Based on average of 25 years data, hottest month of the year was April (34.1 0C), while lowest in the month of January (12.6 0C). Mean maximum humidity was recorded in the month of September (90.02 %), while minimum humidity in the month of February (33.2%). In case of average rainfall of last 25 years recorded about 1500 mm in 59.3 rainy days with highest evaporation rate of 6.5 (mm/day) in the month of May. Minimum bright sunshine hours observed during month of July (3.38 BSSH), while clear atmosphere with maximum bright sunshine hours in the month of April (10.1 BSSH). This zone receives rainfall during the year in which more than 95 % rainfall mainly through the influence of S-W monsoon. The soils of this sub centre are deep black with few patches of coastal alluvial, laterite and medium black soils.
