Experiment code 17.2.3.50
Experiment Title Effect of gypsum and CaCl2 amendments on reclamation of saline-sodic soils under rice and its residual effect on wheat
Research Type Departmental Research
Experiment Background Salt affected soil reduces crop yields, reduces the effectiveness of irrigation, destruction of soil structure and affects other soil properties. Salt stress is one of the most serious limiting factors for crop growth and production in arid and semi-arid regions. Coastal areas are mainly saline or saline-sodic soils with heavy texture. Gypsum is the most common chemical amendments applied for removal sodicity from soils. It is low cost, available and easily handling. However, the solubility of gypsum is low and as compared to other CaCl2. Studies have shown that the concept of use dual amendments both gypsum+CaCl2 have pronounced effect in reducing the ESP of soil as compared to use of single amendment application. In this regard, an experiment has been planed, to study the reclamation effect using dual amendments, viz., gypsum and calcium chloride on saline-sodic under rice-wheat sequence.
