Experiment code 18.4.3.2 (SAF/18/2)
Experiment Title Preparation of stem-form table for estimation of volume in Teak (Tectona grandis L. f.)
Research Type Departmental Research
Experiment Background Teak (Tectona grandis L.; Lamiaceae) is one of the important timber yielding tree species of tropical region. Timber is used for making of furniture, doors, windows and other decorative construction purposes. As per ISFR (2019), growing stock of teak in terms of total volume and total stems is maximum after the Sal (Shorea robusta). After development of elite/clonal planting materials, there was a reduction of rotation period from 60- 80 years to 30- 40 years, which also fetches high timber value. Teak is one of the preferred tree species planted by farmer in their farmlands. There are general volume tables, local volume tables as well as volumetric equations developed at national level for the determination of volume of teak trees. However, there is lack of information regarding the form/ taperness of teak trees diameter class wise. Form or taperness is normally helpful to determine the shape of tree stem and it again determine the accurate wood content of standing trees. Therefore, it is planned to determine the form of teak tree diameter class wise for further estimation of actual volume of standing teak trees in the South Gujarat condition. This would help the farmers, foresters, timber merchant including scientists to estimate standing volume of tree using diameter and height.

D2: 10-15 cm
D3: 15-20 cm
D4: 20-25 cm
D5: 25-30 cm
D6: 30-35 cm
D7: 35-40 cm
D8: 40-45 cm
D9: 45-50 cm
D10: 50-55 cm
D11:55-60 cm
