Experiment code 14.2.3.60
Experiment Title Effect of water application through vertical inserted pipe in clay soil with different levels of irrigation and fertigation on growth and yield of sapota
Research Type AICRP Research
Experiment Background Sapota is the second most important fruit crop in South Gujarat. Excess water is used by the farmer which adversely affect the fruit yield and quality of sapota. Sapota responded well when irrigation and fertigation given through drip irrigation system. Application of limited volume water at high frequency on surface through drip irrigation which resulted shallow roots concentrated on upper layer. Sapota has deep root system and active root zone of this crop below 40-50 cm. So, there is need to modify the rooting depth through application of irrigation water and fertilizer in deeper layers through drip method which can also results to improve the water and fertilizer use efficiency by minimizing the evaporation loses on surface. In order to generate information on these aspects, the present experiment is to be planned.

Treatment

I) Drip irrigation levels

  I1 = 0.40 PEF (Water applied below ground level)

  I2 = 0.60 PEF (Water applied below ground level)

  I3 = 0.80 PEF (Water applied below ground level)

  I4 = 0.75 PEF (Water applied on surface)

Note : I1, I2,& I3 = Water applied in HDPE pipe (75 mm diameter) vertically  inserted 45 cm in soil through sphagstti tube (4 mm diameter) fitted on 8 lph dripper

II) Fertigation levels

   F1= 60 % RD of  N&K

   F2= 80 % RD of  N&K

   F3= 100 % RD of  N&K

( RDF= 100:50:50 NPK kg/ha)

          Note: 1) Two equal split of P will be given before and after monsoon.

                     2) Total 10 equal split of N and K will be given in two spall i.e. before and after monsoon through fertigation
